To whom this concerns:
I am writing in regards to Esther Weaver, current secretary for the music department at Central Christian School where I am director. This is Esther’s third year in this position. We enjoy a large and successful music program at Central and Esther is closely connected with the functions of the many ensembles and the individual lessons that take place here.
A primary responsibility of Esther’s has been to oversee the private lesson program. For this program, Esther locates and contacts over a dozen quality teachers from local communities and universities. She then schedules lesson times agreeable to students, teachers and classroom teachers, a daunting task because at times this can involve over one hundred different students and schedules! This is an important part of the success of our department and Esther conscientiously and thoroughly sees to it that students follow through with payments, attend their lessons, and oversees each application for contest events.
Scheduling performances for Concert Choir, Varsity Singers, Jubilance (vocal ensembles), and several strings quartets are another facet of Esther’s responsibilities in organizing an event. She not only schedules these many events, but reserves transportation, creates memos of directions, program purpose, and more for students and myself.
Esther also had the monumental task of totally revamping our music library and database. The choral library alone has approximately 1,300 different musical selections. Each on of them has 20-60 individual pieces of music. A year after her arrival everything was moved to a new facility where thankfully today, it is all housed in an organized fashion, labeled, and entered into the computer thanks to her.
Esther particularly shines in planning concerts and events. She loves to organize parents to help decorate the stage and lobby, oversee refreshments, use of ushers, and more. Though she does so much work preparing for concerts, she does not like the limelight! She humbly does her work so others look good in their roles and that’s where she gets satisfaction. She is self motivated and likes to see a job through to the finish.
I have viewed Esther in many personal interactions beyond her day to day duties. She has demonstrated a deep interest in the musical education of our students at Central. She has viewed herself as much more then a secretary. In many ways she has been counselor, recruiter, cheerleader, and at times mom to many students who needed the right encouragement that I could not offer for whatever reason. Her active love and support for her own five children is a shining testament to the best of what a person can be
